Dear Colleagues,
The increasing presence of contaminants of emerging concern in aquatic environments has become a major global concern due to their persistence, bioaccumulation potential, and adverse effects on ecosystems and human health. Pharmaceuticals, personal care products, dyes, pesticides, endocrine-disrupting compounds, and industrial chemicals are frequently detected in water and wastewater, while conventional treatment technologies often fail to remove them efficiently. Among the range of advanced treatment approaches becoming available, adsorption has gained significant attention because of its simplicity, cost-effectiveness, operational flexibility, and potential for the regeneration and reuse of adsorbent materials.
This Special Issue aims to highlight recent advances in adsorption technologies for the removal of emerging contaminants from water and wastewater systems, and topics of interest include the development and modification of novel adsorbent materials (e.g., clays, biochars, polymers, nanocomposites, agricultural waste-derived adsorbents, and hybrid materials), adsorption mechanisms, kinetic and thermodynamic studies, fixed-bed and dynamic adsorption systems, regeneration strategies, and real-world wastewater applications. Contributions addressing sustainability, circular economy principles, and scale-up perspectives are particularly welcome. Original research articles, reviews, and case studies are invited.

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Environments is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
