Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The increasing complexity of modern electrical and energy systems—driven by the proliferation of renewable energy sources, electric mobility, and distributed smart grids—demands a paradigm shift in control strategies for power electronic systems. As power electronics continue to permeate critical applications, the design of next-generation control systems must address not only the need for greater efficiency and reliability but also challenges related to real-time intelligence, optical sensing integration, and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC).
This Special Issue, “Next-Generation Control Systems for Power Electronics in the AI Era”, aims to bring together the latest research and technological advancements at the intersection of intelligent control, machine learning, signal processing, optical diagnostics, and EMC-aware control strategies for power electronics. The issue focuses on the development and application of advanced, intelligent, and adaptive control systems that improve the performance and resilience of power electronic converters and systems under dynamic, nonlinear, and often harsh environments. Special attention is also given to optical-based monitoring and control solutions, and EMC-aware design, both of which are increasingly critical in high-speed and high-density power systems.
While traditional control and power electronics design have matured, the integration of artificial intelligence, non-intrusive optical diagnostics, and EMC mitigation within control systems remains a relatively underdeveloped yet crucial field. This Special Issue will supplement the existing literature by addressing current gaps and offering innovative solutions that are relevant for future power electronics applications. It aims to stimulate new interdisciplinary research and foster collaboration among control engineers, power electronics designers, EMC specialists, and AI researchers.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Electronics is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
