From 5G to 6G: Emerging Technologies in Wireless Networks
This special issue belongs to the section "Cloud Continuum and Enabled Applications".
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The evolution from 5G to 6G represents a transformative leap in wireless communication, offering unprecedented capabilities in terms of data rates, latency, connectivity and reliability. As 6G research gains momentum, emerging technologies such as terahertz (THz) communication, reconfigurable intelligent surfaces, massive MIMO, AI-driven network optimization and integrated sensing and communication are expected to redefine the landscape of wireless networks. These advancements promise to support ultra-reliable low-latency communications, massive machine-type communications, holographic telepresence, immersive extended reality and AI-powered autonomous systems.
This Special Issue aims to provide a platform for researchers and practitioners to present recent developments, methodologies and practical implementations in the transition from 5G to 6G wireless networks. Contributions are welcome on theoretical, experimental and system-level studies, including network design, resource management, security, energy efficiency, AI/ML-enabled network intelligence and emerging communication paradigms. Emphasis will also be placed on novel architectures, protocols, algorithms and applications that address the challenges of future wireless networks and enable next-generation services.
Contributions are welcome in areas including, but not limited to, the following:
- THz communication and mmWave systems
- Massive MIMO and advanced antenna technologies
- AI/ML-enabled wireless network optimization
- Edge and cloud computing for 6G networks
- Security, privacy and trust in next-generation networks
- Low-latency and ultra-reliable communication systems
- Integrated sensing, communication and localization.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the Special Issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Computers is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 1800 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
