Tribology
A section of Coatings (ISSN 2079-6412).
Section Information
The study of tribology of coatings is of great importance to the integrity and functions of coatings in demanding contact conditions. Specifically, the development of nanotechnologies and composite coatings opens up opportunities to push the boundaries of the tribological performance of coatings but demands a revision of our existing knowledge of tribology. Further, the interfacial bonding of coatings plays an important role in the debonding or spallation of coatings in sliding contact; therefore, there is a great demand for the control of appropriate interfaces by developing novel surface treatments and coating technologies.
This section is dedicated to experimental or theoretical research on the tribological behaviour of coatings with special relevance to the applications of coatings in transport vehicles, energy harvesting devices, manufacturing systems, oil/gas pipelines, and biomedical fields. The scope of this “Tribology of Coatings” section comprises innovative metallic, inorganic, organic and composite coatings especially designed for systems that involve contact elements. Studies of adhesion, friction, wear, corrosion and failure of such coatings in any length of scale are welcome in this section. All manuscripts to be considered for publication in this section will undergo a rigorous peer-review process, and decisions are based on the recommendations of independent reviewers.
