Dear Colleagues,
In recent years, the study of two-dimensional (2D) materials has seen a surge in research interest due to the unique properties of these materials. Graphene, the first discovered 2D material, demonstrates excellent mechanical strength, high electrical conductivity, and large surface area, making it a promising candidate for sensing applications. Since then, new 2D materials, including transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs), MXene, phosphorene and 2D layered perovskite, have been discovered, and researchers have explored their potential for various sensing applications such as gas sensors, biosensors, pressure sensors and optical sensors. The Special Issue of Chemosensors, entitled “Emerging 2D Materials for Sensing Applications”, aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the latest advances in the use of 2D materials for sensing applications. We welcome original research articles, reviews, perspectives, and short communications on the following topics but not limited to:
- Synthesis and functionalization of emerging 2D materials for sensing;
- Novel sensing methodologies based on 2D materials;
- Fabrication of 2D material-based sensors and devices;
- Design and fabrication of 2D material-based hybrid structure for sensing;
- Theoretical calculation and simulation towards 2D materials enabled sensing structure or devices;
- Applications of 2D materials in gas and environmental sensors, biosensors, and other sensing systems;
- Correlation between structures and properties of 2D materials and their sensing performance;
The topic of emerging 2D in sensing is highly relevant to the subject matter of Chemosensors due to its focus on chemical sensing and detection. These sensors possess the potential to detect a wide range of analytes, including gases, liquids, and biomolecules, with high sensitivity and specificity. Additionally, the development of this Special Issue is an active area of research, with numerous advances being made in the design and fabrication of sensor devices. This Special Issue is intended to serve as a forum for researchers and practitioners in materials science, chemistry, physics, engineering, and related fields who are interested in the emerging uses of 2D materials in sensing applications. Professionals involved in sensor design and development will also benefit from this collection of articles.

All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process.
