2015 The journal is divided into five topical sections: Cell Motility and Adhesion, Cell Signaling and Regulated Cell Death, Cell Nuclei: Function, Transport and Receptors, Autophagy and Organelle Function.
2016 Cells starts the Travel Award project.
2017 Indexed by Science Citation Index Expanded - Web of Science (Clarivate Analytics).
The second Travel Award project.
2018 Cells receives its first Impact Factor of 4.829.
One new topical section on Stem Cells has been set up.
Cells commences the Young Investigator Award.
2019 Cells receives an Impcat Factor of 5.656 for the year 2018.
Releases a new project “Editor's Choice Articles".
Has two newly affiliated societies: Signal Transduction Society (STS) and Spanish Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (SEBBM).
Establishes three new sections: Plant, Algae, and Fungi Cell Biology; Cellular Immunology; and Cellular Pathology.
Establishes Reviewer Board and Topic Board.
2020 Cells announced the first edition of the Outstanding Reviewer Awards and Academic Conference Grants Awards.
Established three new sections: Cells of the Nervous System; Cell Cycle; and Cellular Aging.

The year 2021 marks the 10th anniversary of Cells

Cells was indexed in Scopus.

Cells announced Highly Cited Paper Awards, Best Paper Awards for Anniversary Special Issues, a PhD Thesis Award and Best Video Abstract Awards.
