Advanced Cement-Based Materials for Sustainable Infrastructure
This special issue belongs to the section "Building Materials, and Repair & Renovation".
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Cement-based materials remain the backbone of modern infrastructure, yet their sustainability, durability, and repair performance continue to be critical challenges for the construction industry. Recent advances in microstructural characterization, innovative binders, and rapid repair technologies have created new opportunities to improve the performance and environmental impact of cementitious materials. This Special Issue aims to present the latest research and developments in advanced cement-based materials with a focus on hydration mechanisms, novel binder systems, and sustainable repair technologies for buildings and infrastructure.
This Issue will cover fundamental studies on cement hydration and microstructure evolution, interfacial properties in cement-based composites, and the development of innovative cementitious systems such as magnesium phosphate cement and other rapid-setting repair materials. Contributions addressing eco-friendly and low-carbon cement-based materials, recycled components, and durability enhancement strategies are also highly encouraged. Particular attention will be given to materials and technologies designed for rapid repair, rehabilitation, and life extension of aging infrastructure.
Both experimental and modeling approaches are welcome, including advanced characterization techniques, multiscale simulations, and data-driven or artificial intelligence methods for material design and performance prediction. By collating interdisciplinary perspectives, this Special Issue aims to promote sustainable, high-performance cement-based materials and innovative repair solutions for resilient and environmentally responsible built environments.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Buildings is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
