Dear Colleagues,
The pursuit of structural resilience has become a central priority in civil and wind engineering, driven by rapid urbanization, the widespread erection of tall buildings, and the expansion of large infrastructure worldwide. Structures with slender configurations are vulnerable to dynamic hazards such as strong winds and earthquakes, which can compromise personnel safety, functionality, and economic viability. Traditional vibration control approaches often face limitations in adapting to uncertain loading conditions, achieving optimal performance across broad frequency ranges, or balancing efficiency with practical implementation constraints. Recent breakthroughs in smart materials, adaptive control algorithms, artificial intelligence, and advanced sensing technologies are providing unprecedented opportunities to overcome these challenges. Integrating intelligence into vibration-mitigation systems is expected to enable real-time adaptation under diverse and evolving dynamic excitations to enhance structural robustness.
This Special Issue aims to present and disseminate the most recent advances related to smart damping and vibration control for structural resilience. We invite contributions that address the design, modeling, optimization, experimental validation, and practical implementation of novel vibration-mitigation systems across a wide range of civil infrastructures, including wind turbine towers, offshore structures, high-rise buildings, long-span bridges, and other dynamically sensitive systems.
Topics of interest for publication include, but are not limited to:
- Innovative passive damping devices and their optimization;
- Semi-active and active control systems utilizing smart materials;
- Integration of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and deep reinforcement learning for adaptive control;
- Experimental investigations and full-scale field validation of smart damping technologies.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Buildings is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
