Dear Colleagues,
Recent advances in optical biosensing are reshaping analytical science by enabling rapid, label-free, sensitive, and potentially portable detection platforms for biomedical diagnostics, environmental monitoring, food safety, security, and biodefence. The integration of innovative optical transduction schemes, engineered materials, nanostructured interfaces, and robust molecular recognition strategies is opening new routes toward practical optical biosensors with improved selectivity, reproducibility, miniaturization, and field applicability. This Special Issue aims to collect high-quality original research articles, reviews, and short communications focused on the design, fabrication, characterization, and validation of advanced optical biosensing systems. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, surface plasmon resonance sensors combined with molecular recognition elements (MREs), fiber-optic platforms for biosensing strategies, fluorescence-based biosensors, photonic and plasmonic nanostructures for sensing, molecular recognition layers (e.g., biological or biomimetic), biofunctionalization protocols, microfluidic integration, point-of-care devices, and data-assisted sensing approaches. Particular attention will be given to contributions that connect material/interface design with analytical performance and real-sample applications. Studies addressing biosensor reliability, selectivity, matrix effects, device portability, and translational potential are especially encouraged. Finally, innovative optical sensing principles that exploit new schemes, approaches, and materials are of interest to this Special Issue.

Manuscript Submission Information

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Biosensors is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
