Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

I am pleased to announce a Special Issue of Behavioral Sciences titled, ‘People’s Attitudes and Opinions Towards AI in Mental Health Care’.

This Special Issue seeks to advance understanding and critical debate on how end users (across the mental health spectrum), clinicians, and developers perceive and engage with AI-supported mental healthcare. We welcome contributions examining lived experience and attitudes towards AI-enabled interventions; the role of trust, transparency, perceived capability, and human oversight in adoption and sustained use; ethical considerations including privacy, bias, accountability, autonomy, and inclusivity; the influence of individual differences on technology acceptance; implementation challenges in real-world services; and value-sensitive, user-centred design approaches.

This Special Issue aims to move beyond questions of technical feasibility toward socially robust implementation, with the aim of informing ethical, trustworthy, and fit-for-purpose, AI-enabled interventions that strengthen mental health provision while safeguarding autonomy, equity, and psychological wellbeing.
