Phytochemical Analysis and Evaluation of Antioxidant Properties in Medicinal Plants, 2nd Edition

Dear Colleagues,

Medicinal plants continue to play a pivotal role in the discovery of bioactive compounds with promising therapeutic potential. Advances in phytochemical research and analytical technologies have significantly expanded our understanding of the complex composition of medicinal plants and the mechanisms underlying their biological activities. Among these activities, antioxidant properties remain of particular interest due to their potential role in preventing or mitigating oxidative stress-related disorders, including cardiovascular diseases, neurodegenerative conditions, diabetes, and cancer.

The growing demand for natural products has further stimulated research aimed at identifying novel phytochemicals, evaluating their biological efficacy, and elucidating their mechanisms of action. In addition to traditional medicinal species, increasing attention is being given to underexplored plants, new extraction methods, and innovative analytical approaches that improve the characterization of plant-derived metabolites.

The first edition of our topic was a success (https://www.mdpi.com/journal/antioxidants/special_issues/5W56FM7I8D), with ten articles presenting new findings on medicinal plants and their antioxidant potential. These contributions have significantly advanced our understanding of plant‑based therapeutics and their role in disease prevention and treatment.

This second edition of the Special Issue, “Phytochemical Analysis and Evaluation of Antioxidant Properties in Medicinal Plants”, aims to provide an updated platform for presenting recent advances in phytochemical profiling, antioxidant evaluation, and the pharmacological potential of medicinal plants. We welcome original research and comprehensive reviews that contribute to a deeper understanding of plant bioactive compounds and their applications in medicine, nutrition, and health promotion, ultimately supporting the development of evidence-based natural therapies.

Research can include studies relating to any of the following topics:

• The general chemistry of medicinal plants;
• The technology and treatment of medicinal plants;
• Activities to prevent and treat various human diseases—in vivo and in vitro.
