Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury remains a central challenge in cardiovascular medicine, driven by a complex interplay of oxidative stress, inflammatory signaling, mitochondrial dysfunction, and regulated cell death pathways. Despite significant advances in reperfusion therapies, the translation of cardioprotective strategies from bench to bedside continues to face substantial obstacles, underscoring the need for deeper mechanistic insight and innovative therapeutic approaches.

This Special Issue is conceived as a broad, integrative platform for the dissemination of high-quality original research and critical reviews addressing the multifaceted nature of I/R injury. Rather than restricting its scope to a single signaling cascade or therapeutic modality, it deliberately embraces the biological heterogeneity of I/R pathophysiology and encourages contributions that span molecular, cellular, organ-level, and systemic perspectives.

Submissions encompassing both preclinical experimental models and clinical or epidemiological investigations are welcomed, with particular interest in studies that bridge disciplinary boundaries, integrate multi-omics data, or offer novel conceptual frameworks for understanding cardioprotection.

By fostering interdisciplinary dialog between basic scientists, translational researchers, and clinicians, this collection aspires to advance a more comprehensive, mechanistically grounded understanding of I/R injury and to catalyze the development of effective, evidence-based cardioprotective strategies applicable across diverse clinical contexts.
