Vitamin C in Cancer Therapy
This special issue belongs to the section "Health Outcomes of Antioxidants and Oxidative Stress".
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Since its discovery about a century ago, vitamin C has been the subject of scholarly interest due to its potential as a remedy for many illnesses. However, no research area has created as much controversy as the investigations into whether vitamin C (ascorbate) has a role in the management of cancer.
Recent advances have fundamentally reshaped vitamin C’s role in oncology. It is now recognized that pharmacologic concentrations of vitamin C, achievable only through intravenous administration, can selectively induce oxidative stress in cancer cells while sparing normal tissues. Growing evidence from mechanistic studies, preclinical models, and early-phase clinical trials has renewed interest in vitamin C as a promising adjunct to conventional cancer therapies.
This Special Issue of Antioxidants, 'Vitamin C in Cancer Therapy', will highlight the latest advances in basic, translational, and clinical research. We welcome contributions that explore the molecular mechanisms of vitamin C’s action, including, but not limited to, redox regulation, epigenetic modulation, cancer metabolism, immune responses, and interactions with the tumor microenvironment. Studies investigating pharmacokinetics, biomarkers of response, and rational combinations with chemotherapy, radiotherapy, immunotherapy, and targeted therapies are also encouraged.
Despite substantial progress, important questions remain regarding patient selection, optimal treatment strategies, and clinical implementation. By bringing together multidisciplinary perspectives, this Special Issue aims to summarize the current knowledge, identify critical research gaps, and stimulate innovative studies that will further define the role of vitamin C in modern cancer therapy. We anticipate that this Special Issue will serve as a valuable resource for researchers and clinicians working to improve outcomes for patients with cancer.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Antioxidants is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2900 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
