Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Infectious diseases represent one of the most pressing challenges facing global health today. The emergence of drug-resistant pathogens, devastating mortality from infections acquired in healthcare settings, and insufficient therapeutic options for numerous tropical diseases—especially in resource-limited regions—demand urgent attention from researchers worldwide and international health organizations. The COVID-19 pandemic further underscored our critical need to advance research into innovative prevention and treatment approaches for viral pathogens. Against this backdrop, there is an imperative to discover and develop novel, effective, and safe therapeutic agents capable of combating infections from diverse pathogenic organisms including viruses, bacteria, fungi, and parasitic protozoa. This Special Issue, "Current Advances and Innovations in Anti-Infective Agents Discovery", seeks to showcase cutting-edge research spanning multiple dimensions of this vital field. Our goal is to create a comprehensive scientific forum that brings together fundamental discoveries, practical applications, and translational studies, all unified by the common objective of advancing antimicrobial drug development to address these critical global health needs. Some focal points include, but are not limited to, the following: the identification and development of new antimicrobial compounds through target-specific approaches; therapeutic interventions focused on enhancing host immune responses; repurposing existing pharmaceutical compounds for new antimicrobial applications; the exploration of natural compounds as potential sources for anti-infectious drug candidates; molecular target identification, characterization, and biological validation processes; the in vivo and in vitro assessment of therapeutic efficacy; safety profiling and toxicological evaluation studies; the investigation of drug absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion; computer-aided molecular design and computational modeling for anti-infectious therapeutics; and drug combination approaches and multi-target therapeutic strategies. We welcome reviews, original research, and communications.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Antibiotics is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2900 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
