Changes of Hormones and Physiological Adaptation During Pregnancy in Animals
This special issue belongs to the section "Animal Physiology".
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Mammals face a series of changes to re-establish homeostasis during the peripartum period, which is characterized by hormonal, metabolic, and physiological adaptations. The success of these adaptations guarantees the progress of pregnancy, parturition, and the onset of lactation. The adequate adaptive response of the animal to the increased metabolic demands and energetic needs of the ovary, placenta, and mammary glands is crucial during pregnancy and lactation in order to maintain a good body condition score by decreasing energy expenditure and increasing lipolysis and fat utilization.
This Special Issue welcomes high-quality articles that advance the current scholarship on hormonal adaptations, as well as on the interactions between the endocrine system, immune system, and metabolic adaptation that occur in mammals during the peripartum period. Topics of interest include the effects of management, nutritional strategies, social stressors, and novel tools for healthy assessment.
We look forward to receiving your contributions related to innovative approaches to pregnancy and lactation in animal species.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the Special Issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Animals is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
