Farmer Behavior and Sustainable Agricultural Management
This special issue belongs to the section "Agricultural Economics, Policies and Rural Management".
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Agricultural sustainability is a critical global challenge in the face of climate change, biodiversity loss, and growing food system pressures. Despite ambitious international and European policies, a persistent implementation gap remains. Farmers' decisions are influenced by diverse local conditions, economic realities, and access to knowledge, while global agri-food systems are simultaneously reshaped by digitalization, traceability demands, and new market incentives.
This Special Issue aims to discuss recent advances in research on farmer behavior and sustainable agricultural management in the context of climate change, resource constraints, and agri-food system transformation. We welcome research examining how socio-economic factors, behavioral drivers, and governance mechanisms shape the adoption of sustainable practices—including nutrient management, resource-use efficiency, and environmentally responsible production. Studies addressing the role of policy instruments, market incentives, digital technologies, innovation diffusion, and knowledge exchange in facilitating sustainability transitions are encouraged.
Topics include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Farmer decision-making and sustainability pathways.
- Adoption of sustainable farm practices.
- Nutrient management and resource efficiency.
- Digital transformation and innovation in agriculture.
- Sustainability in agri-food value chains.
- Knowledge exchange and capacity building in rural areas.
- Agricultural adaptation to global challenges.
