The journal J was launched at the beginning of 2018 [1]. J was launched as an experiment aiming to provide a journal in which all acceptable and scientifically sound research results, including negative results and replication studies could be published [1]. Unfortunately, this experiment has confirmed that scholars prefer to publish positive results. The number of publications over the last three years (18 in 2018, 33 in 2019, and 29 in 2020 [2]) have not followed a healthy trend. This has led us to reconsider the scope of J and to orient it towards papers focusing solely on natural and applied sciences.
As an advocate of open access, MDPI has gradually established internationally renowned journals in the fields of nature and applied sciences, such as the International Journal of Molecular Sciences [3], Sensors [4], Molecules [5], Materials [6], Cancers [7], Nutrients [8], Polymers [9], Agronomy [10], Microorganisms [11], and Pharmaceutics [12]. J has collaborated, and will continue to collaborate, with these journals to provide content of a high scientific standard. If you find that your submission to these journals does not quite fit within their scopes, you are welcome to transfer your paper to J, with any existing review reports.
The updated scope of J includes:

- Chemistry and Materials Science;
- Computer Science and Mathematics;
- Engineering;
- Environmental and Earth Sciences;
- Medicine and Pharmacology;
- Physical Sciences;
- Public Health and Healthcare.
As always, we will provide rapid yet rigorous peer review. We encourage you to submit and publish alongside our team, and contribute as reviewers, editorial board members, and guest editors to further serve the J community.
