Cover Story: Biocompatible biomaterials have been widely used in the treatment of several bone problems, such as fractures, osteoporosis, and loss of bone tissue. The use of a bioceramic such as hydroxyapatite associated with magnetite nanoparticles promotes the growth of osteoblast cells. The inclusion of drugs in nanocomposites, like simvastatin, can increase the regenerative efficiency of these materials. The chitosan scaffolds containing hydroxyapatite and magnetite, covered with simvastatin, are promising as a biomaterial with special characteristics that potentially promote bone cell growth. Thus, the polymeric scaffolds associated with drug-carrying composites can accelerate the regenerative process of damaged bone tissue. View this paper.
