Cover Story: The demand on biologics has been constantly rising over the past decades and has become crucial in modern medicine. Due to progress that had been made in upstream processing (USP), difficulties arise in the downstream and demand for process intensification and innovative solutions. Process integration is one of the key strategies for intensifying and developing novel processes. Therefore, this work focuses on the integration of precipitation using a quality by design approach for process development. Further, the results obtained experimentally are taken to develop a predictive process model towards a digital twin and model-based advanced process control.View this paper.
