Cover Story: Hard alloy end mills are commonly used in dentistry to mill zirconia prostheses. Nano-diamond (ND) coating improves wear resistance, enhancing the performance and durability of milling tools. This study aims to assess the effects of ND-coated milling bits on the glossiness and roughness of unsintered and sintered zirconia surfaces at different spindle speeds when milling zirconia green blanks. Sintered zirconia blocks had higher glossiness than unsintered blocks. The ND-coated milling bit resulted in higher glossiness for sintered zirconia at all speeds, whereas the uncoated milling bit can only achieve the same glossiness at 1500 rpm. Sintering significantly reduces roughness in zirconia. Overall, the ND-coated milling bit can achieve higher glossiness on sintered zirconia at various speeds, while the uncoated bit only achieves the same glossiness at a specific speed.
