Cover Story: Embedded systems are widespread in our daily life. They are a vital component of larger structures such as wireless sensor networks or the Internet of Things. In various scientific fields, the crucial role is to accurately determine the location of an ongoing acoustic event. The current work mixes several flavors, including computation, software testing, and application of sensor networks in signal processing. It focuses on developing a test-bench to evaluate and test the performance of a swarm-based method running on an embedded implementation. The main findings corroborate the functionality of the proposed concept, since real-life platforms for product development were employed for testing, demonstrating the high potential of the localization algorithm for embedded implementation and real-time processing.
