Cover Story: A AuNR-based hybrid vector covered with thermosensitive polyamidoamine dendron-bearing lipids and cationic lipids was designed as a nanoplatform for a light-activatable transfection system towards spatiotemporal control of gene delivery. The hybrid vector–pDNA complexes generated heat under NIR laser irradiation and formed aggregates at high temperatures. Transfection activity of the complexes was improved considerably by short NIR laser irradiation by enhanced internalization of the complexes via hydrophobic interaction and release of pDNA.
