Cover Story: An enzymatically mineralized collagen gel in which human dermal fibroblasts were encapsulated within the 3D structure was developed and characterized. MgCl2 was also added during gel polymerization, given its role as i) a modulator of ectopic calcification; ii) a component of biomaterials used for bone replacement and iii) a constituent of pathological mineral deposits. The development of 3D mineralized collagen matrices may pave new ways for the study of ectopic calcification. View the paper
