Disaster Risk Monitoring and Post-Disaster Reconstruction: Multidisciplinary Research Based on GIS and Related Technologies

In the era of the deep integration of digitalization and intelligent technologies, advances in 5G, big data, artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, remote sensing, and GIS are fundamentally reshaping socio-economic development and transforming approaches to disaster risk management. These technologies create new opportunities to strengthen comprehensive disaster risk reduction and to build integrated management frameworks that span prevention, resistance, response, and recovery. Marking the 10th anniversary of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, this Topic provides a timely platform to review recent progress, examine persistent challenges, and explore future directions in global disaster risk governance. It focuses on the application of digital and intelligent technologies to comprehensive disaster risk reduction in urban–rural planning, community governance, and major infrastructure systems. The scope encompasses a broad range of research domains, including seismic resilience and post-disaster assessment of buildings and infrastructure, fire risk monitoring and emergency management, geohazard detection and early warning, satellite- and UAV-based remote sensing for hazard mapping and damage assessment, smart city and digital twin technologies for urban resilience, and flood- and water-related disaster management. By integrating multidisciplinary contributions, this Topic aims to advance methodological innovation, foster interdisciplinary collaboration, and support the implementation of comprehensive disaster risk reduction strategies worldwide.
