Monitoring the Risks and Toxicity of Pharmaceuticals in Aquatic Environments
This special issue belongs to the section "Biodiversity and Functionality of Aquatic Ecosystems".
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The toxicity of pharmaceuticals in the terrestrial aquatic environment has become a major pollution concern. The improper disposal of various pharmaceutical products has been observed as an emerging contaminant in aquatic ecosystems. Ingredients of different pharmaceutical products and their metabolites can easily penetrate ecosystems via multiple pathways, which poses acute and chronic toxicity to aquatic organisms. This Special Issue focuses on the emergence, toxicities, and distribution mechanisms of various pharmaceutical products in aquatic environments. The contents of this issue will cover a wide range of topics, including the sources, release, accumulation, and mobilization of various pharmaceutical contaminants in different aquatic environmental systems. This Special Issue will showcase and disseminate recent research findings on emerging pharmaceutical pollutants in the aquatic ecosystem. Such information will expand existing knowledge on pharmaceutical contaminants, sources, and their adverse impacts on the aquatic environment and human health.
