Biodiversity and Ecosystem Functioning

A section of Water (ISSN 2073-4441).

Section Information

The section of Biodiversity and Ecosystem Functioning hosts research articles focusing on the current and past biodiversity of aquatic ecosystems, along with changes in the environment. We use biodiversity in a broad sense, including genetics, classic taxonomy and functional diversity. The ultimate scope of this section is to identify patterns and mechanisms responsible for changes in the biodiversity of aquatic environments, crucial for understanding the impact and interaction of multiple stressors directly and indirectly linked to human impact. The integration experimental, long-term and paleoecological studies will prove the extent to which the biodiversity of aquatic environments is changing in the Anthropocene, in view of adopting strategies of adaptation to new scenarios in different areas of the globe.
