Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

In this Special Issue, we examine the immune mechanisms underlying allergic reactions, the immune response, and disease intervention strategies that include vaccines. Therapies, including biologics and personalized medicine approaches that offer improved management strategies for patients and other new cutting-edge technologies, are focal points of this Special Issue. Additionally, the issue will highlight the advances in understanding how environmental and genetic factors may contribute to allergic disease prevalence and severity, while also taking into account insights from immunotherapy research. Together, these contributions will underscore the evolving landscape of allergy and immunology, aiming to advance patient outcomes and stimulate future research in this crucial field.

Allergen immunotherapy (AIT) modifies immune responses to treat allergies. AIT treatment is a 3-month to 3-year long-term strategy, and its potential candidates are allergic rhinitis and asthma, food allergy, and insect venom allergy. AIT can be administered through specific routes recognized for allergy treatment strategies. A considerable body of knowledge about AIT is available, and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved the first peanut oral immunotherapy (OIT). The AIT effective type for other allergens and the route of administration are a real challenge. This paper reviews published literature on AIT mechanisms, administration routes, and safety.
