Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
This Special Issue is strongly oriented towards integrated, sustainable, and effective strategies for mycotoxin minimization worldwide, with particular attention to topics on advances in applied research in food and feed chains, including industrial actions. The comprehensive knowledge available at a global scale will be integrated with effective technical and management solutions for application at key points in the major affected food and feed chains (maize, wheat, barley, grape, dried fruits, milk, etc.).
We are anticipating contributions from all international scientific communities, industries/companies, and stakeholders that operate in the field of food safety, including effective solutions arising from their experiences and from national and international programs/projects as MycoKey and MyToolBox—two significant H2020 EU–China projects whose results will be presented at the MycoKey International Conference, Bari, Italy, November 2021 .
Particular attention will be given to the regulated and emerging mycotoxins (aflatoxins, deoxynivalenol, zearalenone, fumonisins, ochratoxins, patulin, T-2 and HT-2 toxins, Alternaria toxins, Ergot alkaloids, etc.) that are found in various commodities and final products. The main fields of interest will be covered include:
- Biodiversity & Toxigenic Fungi Monitoring
- Challenges in Mycotoxin Analyses
- Prevention in the Field
- Remediation & Intervention
- Food Processing & Technology
- Modeling & ICT Solutions
- Mycotoxin Control in Animal Feed
In conclusion, this Special Issue calls for papers dealing with the application of integrated approaches to reduce the risks associated with toxigenic fungi and related mycotoxins. The editors will also consider reviews that summarize current chain management or viewpoints for further discussion. Short communications that report on important strategies are also welcome.
We look forward to receiving your submissions to this Special Issue.

Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a double-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Toxins is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
