Cross-Cultural Differences in Ageing
This special issue belongs to the section "Family Studies".
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
In this Special Issue, titled “Cross-Cultural Differences in Ageing,” we welcome original research and comprehensive reviews that examine the multifaceted relationship between cultural contexts and the late-life experience. As global demographics shift, understanding how cultural heterogeneity influences the senescence process is essential for developing inclusive social policies, specialized social services, and equitable healthcare frameworks.
This volume focuses on the social aspects of aging, moving beyond mere chronological markers to investigate the individual and collective experiences of older adults and intergenerational dynamics across diverse societies. A primary objective is to analyze the complex interplay between culture and the life cycle, exploring how cultural norms, rituals, beliefs, and value systems shape the transition into elderhood and influence the subjective well-being of the elderly.
In this Issue, we seek to address the contemporary challenges of cross-cultural aging in the digital era and the face of environmental and climate change. We encourage submissions that explore how digital transformation affects social connectivity and how the escalating climate crisis disproportionately impacts older populations across different cultural landscapes.
Submissions may also explore how ageism manifests across diverse cultures and the ways in which ageism, aging, and culture intersect within the context of shifting social and environmental challenges.
By integrating interdisciplinary perspectives, the aim of this Special Issue is to provide a robust scholarly foundation for understanding the diversity of the human aging experience in an increasingly globalized yet cultural distinct world.
