One Health Surveillance for Emerging and Reemerging Zoonotic Pathogens
This special issue belongs to the section "Emerging Pathogens".
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
One Health Surveillance for Emerging and Reemerging Zoonotic Pathogens is a series of journal articles focused on translating One Health principles into actionable surveillance practice at the human–animal–environment interface. As emerging and reemerging zoonotic pathogens continue to pose significant global risks, there is a critical need for surveillance systems that not only generate data but also deliver timely, coordinated early warning signals that can inform policies and strategies for prevention and preparedness for future pandemic threats.
This Special Issue encourages submissions that present practical, real-world examples of One Health surveillance implementation. Authors are invited to describe collaborative, coordinated, and integrated surveillance approaches that have been applied in practice across human health, animal health, wildlife, and environmental sectors. Emphasis should be placed on implementation processes, governance structures, data integration and dissemination, and operational lessons learned, with clear discussion of how these approaches can be adapted or replicated in other settings to strengthen early warning capacity.
Topics of interest include early detection and response to emerging pathogens, integrated surveillance system design, One Health governance design, cross-sector data sharing, and innovative tools that enhance surveillance effectiveness. By showcasing replicable models and applied experiences, this series aims to support the development of scalable One Health surveillance systems that improve preparedness, accelerate detection, and reduce the impact of the next pandemic threat.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Pathogens is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
