Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The convergence of genomic science with the One Health approach has become essential for understanding the complex dynamics of infectious diseases at human–animal–environment interfaces. This Special Issue aims to explore the cutting-edge applications of genomics in unraveling microbial adaptation mechanisms, antimicrobial resistance (AMR), evolutionary biology, and cross-species transmission. We welcome studies focusing on a wide range of pathogens—including bacteria, viruses, fungi, and protozoa—through the lens of integrated genomics and systems biology.
Contributions may include (but are not limited to) whole-genome sequencing (WGS), comparative genomics, resistome and mobilome analyses, metagenomics (including shotgun and amplicon-based approaches), and functional genomics. Studies that employ bioinformatics pipelines to uncover the molecular mechanisms of pathogenesis, horizontal gene transfer, or host specificity are particularly encouraged. Furthermore, research on reverse vaccinology and immunoinformatics for the identification of vaccine targets, especially for zoonotic and neglected pathogens, aligns with the goals of this Special Issue.
We also invite manuscripts focused on genomic epidemiology, real-time pathogen surveillance, and the predictive modeling of AMR dissemination using machine learning and artificial intelligence frameworks. Special attention will be given to interdisciplinary studies that integrate genomic data with clinical, ecological, or socio-environmental information to generate actionable insights in public and global health contexts.
By fostering collaboration among microbiologists, clinicians, veterinarians, ecologists, and computational scientists, this Special Issue aims to provide a platform for innovative research that supports effective disease prevention, surveillance, and control strategies grounded in the One Health paradigm.
