Dear Colleagues,
The electrochemical conversion of carbon dioxide (CO2) into value-added fuels and chemicals represents a promising approach for mitigating rising atmospheric CO2 concentrations and enabling sustainable carbon management. Electrocatalytic CO2 reduction (CO2RR) has rapidly emerged as a cutting-edge field bridging electrochemistry, catalysis, materials science, and energy engineering. Despite impressive progress in catalyst development, mechanistic understanding, and device integration, challenges remain in achieving high selectivity, stability, and economic feasibility suitable for industrial deployment.
This Special Issue aims to present recent advances in CO2RR, including experimental and theoretical works that address the fundamental mechanisms, catalyst and electrode design, reactor engineering, computational modeling, in situ/operando characterization, and techno-economic assessments. Original research articles and comprehensive reviews are welcome. Research topics may include (but are not limited to) the following:
- Catalysts for selective multi-electron CO2 reduction;
- Nanostructured electrodes and electrolyzer architectures;
- Reaction pathways and mechanistic insights;
- Advanced characterization methods;
- Computational modeling and AI-assisted catalyst screening;
- Integration with renewable energy sources and carbon capture technologies.

Manuscript Submission Information

All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Molecules is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
