Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

We are delighted to announce a Special Issue on the topic of "Genomic Analysis of Microbiome Impact on Human Diseases", which aims to provide a platform for researchers to present their latest findings and advancements in the field of genomic analysis of the microbiome and its profound influence on human health and diseases.

The human microbiome plays a crucial role in maintaining human health and has been implicated in the development of various diseases. Recent advancements in genomic analysis techniques have revolutionized our ability to study the intricate relationship between the microbiome and human diseases. This Special Issue will focus on the application of genomic analysis tools, including metagenomics, metatranscriptomics and metaproteomics, to unravel the genetic and functional diversity of the microbiome and its impact on human health and diseases.

We invite researchers from various disciplines, including genomics, microbiology, bioinformatics, clinical medicine, and related fields, to contribute their original research articles, reviews and perspectives to this Special Issue. We particularly encourage submissions that present novel findings, methodological advancements and clinical implications related to the genomic analysis of the microbiome and its role in human diseases. Topics of interest for this Special Issue include, but are not limited to:

  1. Microbiome dysbiosis and its association with disease development.
  2. Microbial signatures as diagnostic or prognostic markers for human diseases.
  3. The functional characterization of microbial communities in disease states.
  4. Interactions between the microbiome and host genetics in disease susceptibility.
  5. Microbiome modulation for therapeutic interventions in human diseases.
  6. Translational applications of genomic analysis of the microbiome in clinical practice.

By bringing together a collection of high-quality research articles, this Special Issue aims to advance our understanding of the impact of the microbiome on human diseases and foster interdisciplinary collaborations. We encourage authors to submit their manuscripts through the journal's online submission system, adhering to the journal's guidelines and formatting requirements.

We look forward to receiving your valuable contributions to this Special Issue and believe that the collective knowledge shared within its pages will significantly contribute to our knowledge of the genomic analysis of the microbiome and its implications for human health and diseases.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Microorganisms is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2700 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.

Benefits of Publishing in a Special Issue

  • Ease of navigation: Grouping papers by topic helps scholars navigate broad scope journals more efficiently.
  • Greater discoverability: Special Issues support the reach and impact of scientific research. Articles in Special Issues are more discoverable and cited more frequently.
  • Expansion of research network: Special Issues facilitate connections among authors, fostering scientific collaborations.
  • External promotion: Articles in Special Issues are often promoted through the journal's social media, increasing their visibility.
  • e-Book format: Special Issues with more than 10 articles can be published as dedicated e-books, ensuring wide and rapid dissemination.
