Clinical Management of Superficial Fungal Infections: Antifungal Therapy and Resistance Challenges
This special issue belongs to the section “Medical Microbiology“.
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Superficial fungal infections of skin, hair, and nails represent a growing morbidity and healthcare burden worldwide. Although often perceived as mild conditions that can self-resolve or be easily treated with over-the-counter medications, physicians are now facing the challenge of antifungal resistance and lack of appropriate diagnostic tests. Across both the Global North and South, we are witnessing an evolving trend of new dermatophytic species causing unusual, severe infections that can often complicate or mislead clinical diagnosis. Increased collaboration and research are much needed to tackle these challenges.
This proposed Special Issue aims to bring together insights into the epidemiology and management of superficial fungal infections, encompassing clinicomycological findings, advances in diagnosis, new treatment options and strategies, as well as public health and epidemiological perspectives.
Reviews, original research, and communications are welcome.
