Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Soil and water are the foundation of life, ecosystems, and human prosperity. However, accelerating climate change, population growth, urbanization, and deforestation and intensive agricultural practices are exerting unprecedented pressures on these vital resources. Many regions around the world are increasingly confronted with land degradation, more frequent and severe floods and droughts, water scarcity, and food insecurity. Ensuring the sustainable management of soil and water is therefore crucial for safeguarding ecosystem services, securing food and water supplies, and enhancing resilience to environmental change. Achieving harmony between resource use and environmental preservation has become an urgent priority for researchers, practitioners, and policymakers. Striking the right balance in a naturally dynamic environment—further complicated by changing climatic conditions—demands a deep understanding of evolving processes and needs. It also calls for the adoption of integrated, interdisciplinary, and adaptive approaches that can foster sustainable soil and water management at multiple scales.
This Special Issue aims to advance knowledge and practice in integrated soil and water management by fostering the integration of insights across disciplines and strengthening collaboration among scientists, practitioners, and policymakers. By bringing together diverse perspectives and methodologies, it seeks to inspire the development of innovative frameworks and sustainable solutions to address the complex and evolving challenges of soil and water management—both today and in the future.
This Special Issue invites original research articles, reviews, and perspectives that advance knowledge and practice in integrated soil and water management. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:
Integrated modelling and assessment of land–water–climate interactions;
Nature-based solutions for sustainable resource management;
Innovative technologies and tools for monitoring, planning, and decision support;
Catchment-scale management strategies;
Land use change and its impacts on water quality and availability;
Policy, governance, and stakeholder engagement frameworks supporting sustainable practices;
Adaptation and resilience strategies under climate change scenarios;
Data-driven and remote sensing applications for integrated management.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Land is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
