Fluid/Flow–Structure Interaction in Marine Engineering Systems

Dear Colleagues,

Fluid/flow–structure interactions are fundamental phenomena in marine science and engineering, governing the hydrodynamic performance, structural integrity, operational safety, and energy efficiency of ships, offshore structures, coastal infrastructure, and marine renewable energy systems. As computational capabilities, numerical methods, and experimental techniques continue to advance, researchers are gaining unprecedented opportunities to investigate increasingly complex coupled fluid–structure phenomena under realistic environmental and operational conditions.

This Special Issue aims to present recent advances in the analysis, modeling, simulation, and experimental investigation of fluid/flow–structure interaction in marine and offshore engineering. Original research articles and review papers are welcome, covering theoretical developments, numerical methods, experimental studies, and industrial applications. Particular emphasis will be placed on Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), fluid/flow–structure interaction (FSI), wave–structure interaction, hydroelasticity, free-surface and multiphase flows, flow–induced vibration, and coupled multiphysics simulations. Contributions incorporating artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, and other data-driven approaches to improve numerical modeling, computational efficiency, and engineering design are also encouraged.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Fluid/flow–structure interaction in marine and offshore engineering;
• Wave–structure interaction and marine hydrodynamics;
• Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and coupled numerical methods;
• Hydroelasticity and structural response;
• Free-surface and multiphase flows;
• Flow-induced vibration and vortex-induced vibration;
• Offshore renewable energy systems;
• Experimental measurement and validation;
• AI-assisted marine CFD and digital twins;
• Marine engineering applications involving coupled fluid–structure phenomena.
