Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
As the world rapidly transitions into a new era of communication technologies, the evolution of 5G and the emergence of 6G networks are set to redefine industries, economies, and societies on a global scale. These next-generation networks promise unprecedented levels of connectivity, ultra-low latency, and reliability, transforming domains such as autonomous systems, smart cities, immersive media, and industrial automation.
This Special Issue of Information seeks to explore recent advancements in 5G, 6G, and beyond, with a particular emphasis on their integration with Artificial Intelligence (AI), Generative AI (GenAI), cybersecurity, and next-generation communication infrastructures. By harnessing GenAI for network intelligence, automation, and resilience, the future of wireless communication is expected to become more adaptive, self-optimizing, and secure. This Special Issue highlights how these converging technologies are reshaping the way we interact, work, and live—paving the way for a hyper-connected and intelligent digital future.
We invite submissions that address innovative theories, methodologies, technologies, and applications at the intersection of AI and advanced communication systems. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
- Next-generation network architectures for 5G and 6G;
- AI, machine learning, and generative AI in future networks;
- Network automation and self-organizing networks (SONs);
- Security, privacy, and trust in next-generation networks;
- Mobility management and routing optimization in heterogeneous networks;
- AI-enabled radio resource management and scheduling in 5G/6G networks;
- Time-sensitive and deterministic communication in future networks;
- AI-augmented edge and fog computing for 5G/6G networks;
- Sustainability and energy efficiency in networks;
- Generative AI for network traffic modeling and anomaly detection.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Information is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 1800 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
