Smart Responsive Hydrogels for Drug Delivery

Dear Colleagues,

Hydrogels are extensively utilized in biomedical and pharmaceutical research. These systems can be engineered from diverse components, including natural and synthetic polymers as well as small-molecule compounds, resulting in a broad spectrum of functional platforms. Stimuli-responsive hydrogels, in particular, represent the cutting edge of smart material research due to their ability to adapt to environmental changes such as temperature, pH, ionic strength, and electromagnetic fields.

These intelligent systems enable the development of advanced drug delivery platforms tailored for topical, parenteral, and sustained-release applications. This Special Issue explores the latest advancements in responsive hydrogel-based drug delivery, welcoming original research, reviews, and case studies that describe innovative manufacturing technologies and offer novel perspectives. We aim to foster continued innovation and provide both academic insights and practical solutions for the field.

Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the Special Issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Gels is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
