Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

It is my pleasure to announce the Special Issue “Selected Papers from the 1st International Online Conference on Gels” (IOCG 2025). This conference has been organized by the MDPI open access journal Gels (ISSN 2310-2861, Impact Factor 5.3) and will be held online from 3 to 5 December 2025. Following the review of submitted manuscripts based on the abstracts of the conference, selected outstanding papers will be published in this Special Issue.

The conference will provide an opportunity for scientists and engineers in academia and industry to present their latest research and to participate in discussions and exchange ideas to advance the development of soft materials with a three-dimensional network structure. The themes of the conference include the following:

    The supramolecular structure and properties of gels;

    Hydrogels, organogels, xerogels, and aerogels;

    Gels in agriculture and food;

    Gels in medicine, regenerative medicine, pharmacy, and personal care products;

    Gels in electro-magneto-mechanical devices, 3D printing, and manufacturing;

    Gels in chemical processing, energy, and environment.

We invite you to submit abstracts and participate in this virtual meeting of the interdisciplinary community to discuss the latest breakthroughs in fundamental science and the technology of gels, such as hierarchical and self-assembled, self-healing, colloidal, polyelectrolyte, smart and stimuli-responsive gels, and their impact on the food, agriculture, environment, medicine, and energy sectors. The conference will be a celebration of the contributions of Gels and will feature six awards given for best oral and poster presentations at the conference.

This event will solely be an online conference, allowing for the participation of scientists from all over the world without travel limitations. Participation in this online conference is free of charge.

We look forward to your participation.

Guest Editor

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Gels is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2100 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.

Benefits of Publishing in a Special Issue

  • Ease of navigation: Grouping papers by topic helps scholars navigate broad scope journals more efficiently.
  • Greater discoverability: Special Issues support the reach and impact of scientific research. Articles in Special Issues are more discoverable and cited more frequently.
  • Expansion of research network: Special Issues facilitate connections among authors, fostering scientific collaborations.
  • External promotion: Articles in Special Issues are often promoted through the journal's social media, increasing their visibility.
  • Reprint: MDPI Books provides the opportunity to republish successful Special Issues in book format, both online and in print.
