Game Theory in Industrial Organization
This special issue belongs to the section "Applied Game Theory".
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Ever since Antoine Augustin Cournot introduced the Cournot Duopoly Model in 1838, Game Theory has become an integral part of studying the organization of markets, strategic firm behavior, mergers and acquisitions, and related policies on the regulation of industry and antitrust policy. This Special Issue brings the spotlight back to connections between key questions in industrial organization and the use of game theoretic techniques to develop important insights about them. We welcome original theoretical and empirical research that uses cooperative or non-cooperative game theory to analyze a modern market phenomenon or regulatory policy. Literature reviews that summarize the current state of the art in game theory in industrial organization will also be considered. The primary requirement for any submission considered for publication is a well-laid-out game theoretic framework for studying a market, industry or regulatory policy. Within these criteria, varied original research articles will be considered.
Submissions can cover varied topics and industries, including, but not limited to, the following:
- Modern Markets such as Social Media Firms, Competition for AI, Targeted Advertising, Digital Markets and Open Source;
- Antitrust in Technology Markets;
- Healthcare and Pharmaceuticals;
- Intellectual Property Rights and Copyright;
- Platform Competition, Two-sided Markets and Network Effects;
- Mergers, Collusion, Price Discrimination and Monopolistic Practices;
- Vertical Integration;
- Product Differentiation and Branding;
- Research and Development;
- Oligopolistic Competition and Entry Barriers;
- Transaction Costs;
- Contract Theory and Hold-up.
