Dear Colleagues,
One of the most important goals that should be set in schools and universities is the promotion of civic engagement among young people. This requires conveying knowledge, enhancing skills and developing positive attitudes in students towards citizen participation, creating awareness of their important role in finding solutions to the different problems faced by the countries of our environment and their institutions.
Civic competence results from a complex combination of different learning outcomes based on democratic values, necessary for the person to become an active citizen.
This Special Issue seeks to compile articles that focus their research on how young people can acquire this civic competence and what types of problems can be analyzed in the classroom so that students get involved, exchange ideas and practices, learn to document themselves and make motivated decisions. The best strategies are those that achieve greater commitment and the assumption of responsibilities, both from teachers and students. In addition, articles that describe the commitment of schools and universities to innovative practices in this area are also interesting.
The articles can be based on general empirical studies or on specific case studies and analyses that develop a solid theoretical framework that offers an extensive treatment of the literature and a reflection on the subject. This Special Issue is intended to reflect a variety of articles focusing on different educational and learning contexts and with different approaches.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a double-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Education Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
