Call for Papers: Special Issue on Critical Issues of English for Academic Purposes in Higher Education
Guest Editor: Dr. Yong-Jik Lee
Dear Colleagues,
In response to the growing internationalization of higher education and the increasing emphasis on English as the medium of instruction and scholarship, English for Academic Purposes (EAPs) has emerged as a critical field of inquiry and pedagogical practice across global tertiary institutions. The rise of multilingual and multicultural student populations, alongside evolving expectations of academic literacy, has prompted educational stakeholders to re-evaluate the purposes, pedagogies, and policies surrounding academic English instruction in higher education.
This Special Issue invites the submission of original empirical and conceptual research that addresses key challenges, innovations, and debates in the field of EAPs within higher education contexts. We particularly welcome the submission of studies that investigate institutional strategies, curriculum design, pedagogical models, and technological integration in EAP programs, as well as research that explores how universities are adapting to the increasing linguistic and academic demands of global English-medium instruction.
Potential topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:
- The design and implementation of EAP curricula across disciplines;
- EAP pedagogy for undergraduate and postgraduate learners;
- Multilingual approaches to teaching EAPs in diverse academic settings;
- Assessment practices and challenges in academic English writing, speaking, reading, and listening;
- Professional development and teacher training for EAP instructors;
- Technology-enhanced or AI-integrated approaches to EAP instruction;
- Learner perceptions and experiences of EAPs in multilingual university contexts;
- Comparative studies of EAP implementation across national or regional contexts.
