Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

People living with cancer often experience a range of pain and other symptoms that significantly impact their quality of life. Managing these symptoms effectively is a complex challenge due to the diverse nature of cancer, treatment modalities, individual patient factors, and variable access to care. Current approaches to pain and symptom management in cancer patients include pharmacological treatments, such as opioids and non-opioid analgesics, as well as non-pharmacological approaches like physical, psychological, behavioral, and educational interventions.

However, there are still many areas that need improvement. For example, undertreatment of cancer pain remains prevalent, highlighting an ongoing need to optimize pain management. Several subgroups of people are at high risk of experiencing inadequate symptom management and disparities in care, including, but not limited to, the following: people belonging to racialized or sexual and gender minority groups; people experiencing poverty; children; older people; and people with cognitive impairments. Additionally, the under-recognition of certain symptoms and the lack of standardized assessment tools pose obstacles to optimal care.

This Special Issue aims to explore the latest research and advancements in pain and symptom management for cancer patients. Original research articles and reviews that cover new treatment strategies, improved assessment methods, and the integration of various management approaches for enhancing the overall well-being of cancer patients are welcome.

We look forward to your contributions.
