Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Driven by growing global warming and frequent extreme weather events, carbon emissions reduction has become a global consensus and an urgent developmental imperative across all industries. The construction and building sector accounts for approximately 34% of global carbon emissions, serving as a major bottleneck restricting sustainable city development and the achievement of carbon neutrality targets. Massive energy consumption and intensive carbon output from traditional buildings highlight the necessity of energy-saving renovation and low-carbon upgrading.

This Special Issue focuses on frontier research spanning both building and urban scales. At the building scale, key topics include energy-saving renewal, energy-use profiling, renewable energy utilization, and flexible energy use. At the urban scale, areas of interest encompass urban building energy modeling, urban microclimate, low-carbon renewal, urban energy systems, green and blue infrastructure, and near-zero carbon park practices. This collection seeks to synthesize advanced theories and practical strategies, offering robust references for low-carbon buildings and sustainable cities.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Buildings is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
