Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
In recent years, the construction sector has experienced a significant acceleration in its digital transformation, driven by the need for more efficient, transparent and data-rich processes. The shift toward comprehensive/integrated information management has enabled the widespread adoption of innovative technologies across all stages of the construction process, ranging from artificial intelligence to augmented reality. These innovations are redefining how projects are designed, delivered and maintained, offering several opportunities to enhance productivity, sustainability and decision-making.
Within this context, the call for papers for the Special Issue “Digital Transformation in Construction Technology and Management” in Buildings is particularly timely. This Special Issue aims to collect high-quality contributions that investigate how digital tools, advanced methodologies and data-driven processes are reshaping design, management and production in the construction industry.
We welcome submissions on topics including, but not limited to, the following:
- BIM, digital twins and advanced information modeling
- Automation, robotics and smart construction sites
- Artificial intelligence, machine learning and predictive tools for construction
- Digital approaches to project and construction management
- Linked data, semantic web and ontology-based approaches
- Environmental, social and economic sustainability supported by digital technologies
- Case studies, experimental applications, and interdisciplinary perspectives
Researchers are invited to submit original and unpublished manuscripts in accordance with the journal’s author guidelines.
If you have a manuscript under development or a promising idea awaiting the right publication venue, this Special Issue represents an excellent opportunity to disseminate your research.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Buildings is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
