Advances in Climate Change and the Water–Energy–Food Nexus

Dear Colleagues,

The changes in climate conditions on spatial scales from the local to the regional and global over the last 100 to 150 years are a well-established fact. However, there is a growing and increasingly confirmed realization that much of these changes, particularly over the last few decades, have been caused by anthropogenic drivers. This has raised concern not only with regard to possible mitigation of these causes, but also for possible and necessary adaptation strategies to minimize the adverse impacts of these changes on human societies and nature.

The impacts of climate change pose significant risks to water, energy, and food security in many parts of the globe. Addressing these risks requires a holistic nexus approach in order to understand the mutual feedbacks and dependencies between these sectors. Developing adequate adaptation strategies to climate change by taking these risks into account requires the co-creation of knowledge needed to deliver water, energy, and food for all in a sustainable and equitable way.

This Special Issue aims to provide an overview of these complex issues by presenting a collection of articles that address various aspects of the water–energy–food nexus in light of adaptation to ongoing and future climate change.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Applied Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
