Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The logistics and supply chain industry is increasingly reliant on digital technologies and interconnected systems. These advancements enable smarter decision making, operational optimization, and unprecedented efficiency. However, this digital transformation has also brought about rising cyber risks, necessitating robust cybersecurity measures to prevent disruptions and mitigate financial and reputational damage. The rapid advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) is revolutionizing logistics and supply chain management through applications such as predictive analytics, demand forecasting, and real-time operational decision making. AI-driven mechanisms and solutions are transforming traditional systems by enhancing efficiency, resilience, agility, and sustainability. Despite these advancements, several challenges remain in AI integration, including ensuring data quality, developing effective AI models, addressing cybersecurity threats, and overcoming barriers to adoption in complex and dynamic environments.

We are, therefore, inviting contributions that explore the intersection of AI, logistics, and supply chains, addressing both theoretical developments and practical applications, as well as emerging trends. Potential topics include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • AI-driven demand forecasting and inventory optimization;
  • Cyber–physical infrastructure in the logistics industry;
  • Machine learning applications in route optimization and last-mile delivery;
  • Autonomous vehicles and drones in logistics and supply chain fulfillment;
  • AI-enhanced logistics and supply chain risk management and resilience;
  • Intelligent warehousing and robotic process automation;
  • Ethical and regulatory challenges and solutions for AI adoption in logistics and supply chain management;
  • AI-powered sustainability in supply chain management;
  • Real-world case studies and industry implementations.

We welcome original research articles, case studies, and comprehensive review papers that contribute to advancing knowledge in this rapidly evolving field. By fostering discussions on AI applications in logistics and supply chain management, this Special Issue aims to highlight innovations and provide insights that can shape the future of the industry.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Applied Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
