Dear Colleagues,
Ultrafast ultrasound imaging has transformed biomedical imaging by enabling unprecedented frame rates and opening new possibilities for visualizing highly dynamic physiological processes. Through unfocused wave transmissions, synthetic aperture techniques, advanced beamforming strategies, and high-performance computing, ultrafast imaging overcomes the temporal resolution limits of conventional ultrasound systems, providing enhanced capabilities for functional and quantitative imaging.
This Special Issue aims to present a comprehensive collection of recent advances in ultrafast ultrasound imaging. Contributions are invited on novel imaging methodologies, advanced signal and image processing techniques, and real-time system architectures, including GPU/FPGA-based implementations and innovative transducer technologies. Particular emphasis will be placed on emerging applications such as super-resolution imaging, vector flow imaging, elastography, and multimodal approaches.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Beamforming and image reconstruction techniques: novel transmission schemes and beamforming strategies, aberration correction, denoising and reconstruction enhancement
- Ultrafast flow imaging: high-sensitivity Doppler, microvascular imaging, velocity and flow estimation, clutter suppression and advanced filtering
- Super-resolution and nonlinear imaging: microbubble tracking, ultrasound localization microscopy, super-resolution, nonlinear and cavitation imaging
- Functional and neuroimaging: brain mapping, hemodynamic response imaging, signal separation
- Quantitative ultrasound imaging: shear wave imaging, elastography, viscoelastic parameter estimation, speed of sound estimation, attenuation and backscatter coefficient mapping
- Cardiovascular imaging: tissue motion, cardiac, shear-wave and strain imaging
- Transducers and Systems: array and probe technologies for 2D and 3D ultrafast imaging, high-throughput acquisition, real-time imaging pipelines and hardware acceleration, data compression and data rate management, novel systems for high frame rate

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process.
