Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

This Special Issue is dedicated to the rapidly expanding field of metal-based nanomaterials. Noble metal nanoparticles, including gold, silver, platinum, palladium, and related alloys, continue to attract significant scientific interest due to their unique physicochemical properties, such as their localized surface plasmon resonance and tunable electrical and surface/interface properties. These characteristics make them central in different fields of application, ranging from catalysis to optoelectronics, energy harvesting, sensing, and (nano)biomedicine.

This Special Issue aims to gather contributions that advance our understanding of the synthesis, functionalization, and characterization of noble metal nanoparticles. Studies employing bottom-up and top-down advanced or emerging synthetic strategies, such as (but not limited to) chemical reduction, seed-mediated growth, shape-controlled synthesis, photochemical and electrochemical methods, and green and sustainable routes, are particularly encouraged. Equally welcome are papers demonstrating state-of-the-art characterization approaches, including spectroscopies, microscopies, scattering techniques, single-particle analysis, and surface-sensitive methods, especially when they provide new insights into structure–property relationships. Furthermore, innovative applications in which noble metal nanoparticles play a central role represent another key objective of this Special Issue. These include plasmon-enhanced sensing and imaging, heterogeneous and electrocatalysis, environmental remediation, energy conversion and storage, photothermal techniques, sensing and drug-delivery platforms, antibacterial materials, and optical or electronic devices. Purely experimental studies, as well as works that integrate theoretical modeling and simulations with experimental results to deepen the understanding of nanoparticle behavior and guide rational design, will be considered.

Original research articles, reviews, and perspectives addressing breakthroughs, challenges, and future directions in the field are welcome. By bringing together established and emerging studies, this Special Issue aims to provide a useful reference for future work in nanoparticle science and to encourage new innovations in the synthesis and use of noble metal nanomaterials.

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Applied Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
