Dear Colleagues,
The widespread adoption of embedded systems and Cyber-Physical Systems (CPSs) across modern industry (including domains aligned with Industry 4.0) has significantly expanded the technological capabilities of interconnected infrastructures. At the same time, this growth has exposed new vectors for cyberattacks targeting resource-constrained embedded platforms, safety-critical control components, and complex CPS integrations. Ensuring robust protection of these systems requires addressing a wide spectrum of security challenges, ranging from hardware-level vulnerabilities to system-wide risks involving data privacy, integrity, and confidentiality.
In addition to traditional security mechanisms, recent advancements such as lightweight cryptography, blockchain-based trust models, and intelligent intrusion detection have become essential for safeguarding both embedded architectures and CPS infrastructures. As these systems increasingly interact with cloud, edge, and IoT environments, comprehensive and scalable security solutions are needed to guarantee resilience against evolving threats.
This Special Issue of Applied Sciences aims to foster discussion and present recent research achievements focused on strengthening the security and safety of embedded systems and CPSs. We invite contributions addressing theoretical foundations, practical implementations, and emerging methodologies that improve system protection, vulnerability mitigation, and secure data handling within these critical technological ecosystems.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Applied Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
